Needham Keeps Hold on Apple

Needham analyst Laura Martin reiterated a Hold rating on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).
“We agree with many investors we speak with that there are meaningful risks to the AAPL story, including AI, margin pressure, rising prices, China, etc.
However, the biggest investment risk for AAPL shareholders (our view) is that META or another AI-first competitor builds out an AI-agentic, hardware, and monetization stack that successfully disintermediates the iPhone, undermines AAPL’s ecosystem and weakens the moat that has supported Apple’s premium multiple for most of the past decade.
At $263B of revs in FY26E, META’s revs are about half the size of AAPL’s, and META wants to close that gap, we believe.
Since 2021, when AAPL launched ATT, which cost META $10B of ad revs in the subsequent 12 months (according to META), META’s primary goal has been to replace AAPL’s consumer platform with its own.
META is developing products that directly attack AAPL’s core business, we believe. This note quantifies economics at stake for AAPL shareholders, if META succeeds. We retain our Hold on AAPL.”
