What the analyst said

Wells Fargo analyst Aaron Rakers reiterated an Overweight rating and $140 price target on AMD (NASDAQ: AMD)

“Following NVDA’s 8-K announcement last night (see our previous note), AMD has filed an 8-K this morning announcing that it too expects new US Gov’t license controls on GPU sales into China to impact the company’s MI308X (China-specific SKU).

Initial Thoughts AMD notes that while it expects to apply for licenses, there are no assurances that licenses will be granted.

Therefore, the company is announcing that it expects to take up to an ~$800 million inventory, purchase commitment, and related reserve charge (presumably in 2Q25).

We would not expect to speak with AMD management, given the current quiet period ahead of upcoming (5/6) 1Q25 earnings release.”
