What the analyst said
BofA Securities analyst John Murphy reiterated a Neutral rating and $305 price target on Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA)
“TSLA reported 1Q:25 non-GAAP EPS of $0.27, which was below BofA at $0.35 and consensus at $0.38. Gross margin (16.3% actual vs.
BofAe of 15.1%) was adversely impacted by increased incentives and lower average selling prices on its vehicles, but was still better than expected.
Operating expenses were higher driven by investments in AI and other R&D projects. Given the combination of these factors, operating income of $399mm was below BofAe of $857mm.
We reiterate our Neutral rating, balancing the growth narrative with broader market uncertainty and the stock’s valuation.”
