What the analyst said

Truist Securities analyst William Stein raised the price target on Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) to $406 (from $280) while maintaining a Hold rating.

“The set-up is trickier than ever. TSLA reported mixed Q3 results but again offered no guidance.

We believe TSLA’s near-term auto delivery data and earnings results are decreasingly relevant to the company’s stock price, because (1) most of the value of the shares is tied up in AI projects including FSD, robotaxi, and especially Optimus, and (2) all of the AI projects are at once quite unproven (close to zero revenue), and potentially extremely valuable.

Our updated DCF gets us to $406, so we reiterate our Hold rating.

We offer thoughts on valuation, upside potential from AI projects, and bonus: a new FSD review that offers optimistic and pessimistic takeaways.”
