What the analyst said
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives reiterated an Outperform rating and $550 price target on Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA).
“The worry of the Street is that Musk dedicating so much time (even more than we expected) to DOGE takes away from his time at Tesla in such a crucial moment and year for the company.
The autonomous and robotics battle for market share is in full force both in the US and China and many on the Street view Musk spending “100% of his time” with DOGE as creating a negative perception around his Tesla focus.
The bears will now focus on this DOGE issue, isolated protests, brand worries as their latest narrative, but the reality is this does not change the future of Tesla. We believe while perception is reality, this is off base as our work in the field shows Tesla gearing up for a new mass market vehicle launch in 1H25, making major product developments around autonomous/Optimus across its global production ecosystem, Austin unsupervised FSD launch set for June, and a host of other growth EV/battery catalysts on the horizon.
Musk has always been able to balance his countless initiatives better than any other CEO we have seen and the innovation and tech machine at Tesla is accelerating into an autonomous/robotics future despite growing skepticism around Musk’s DOGE balancing act.”
