What the analyst said

Piper Sandler analyst Harsh Kumar raised the price target on AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) to $280 (from $240) while maintaining an Overweight rating.

“AMD reported a solid quarter, beating across all metrics and importantly in the data center line item. The DC business grew 22% Y/Y, growing both for MI and EPYC servers sequentially and Y/Y.

Looking ahead to the December quarter, AMD guided above consensus by roughly $400 million on the top line. Once again, both EPYC and instinct series are expected to be strong on a sequential basis.

Currently, the GPU server business is smaller than the EPYC server business, but we expect a crossover in late 2026 with the OpenAI deal in 4Q26.

Management noted that EPYC servers are expected to do extremely well as inference is driving strong growth.

Overall, we are impressed by the results and continue to believe that AMD will make progress in DC through 2026.

Reiterate OW rating, raise our PT to $280 due to GPU growth prospects and potential OpenAI revenues down the line.”
