Citizens Reiterates $550 Price Target on Microsoft
Citizens analyst Patrick Walravens reiterated a Market Outperform rating and $550 price target on Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT).
“We maintain our Market Outperform rating and $550 price target on Microsoft, whose stock has increased ~7% year-to-date versus 11% for the S&P 500, after a whirlwind five days when: 1) on September 9, Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic and OpenAI employee, posted that “neither company is acting responsibly” as they are “racing straight to self-improving superintelligence” and that AI “could kill us all by the end of the decade”; 2) the same day, one of his co-workers from Anthropic, Alignment Science Lead Evan Hubinger, replied, “Jacob is correct here – we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!
I personally think it is >10% within the next decade”; 3) on September 11, on the All-In Podcast, David Sacks commented: “Look, I think this is a time for choosing for Anthropic …I think they have to choose between either renouncing [Jacob Coxon]… or they can agree with him, in which case Bernie Sanders may be right that further development should be frozen…”; and 4) on September 12, Dario Amodei posted an essay entitled We Must Pace the Frontier, in which he argued that the industry must slow the rate at which it improves the capabilities of AI models so that alignment work and third-party verification can keep up.”
