What the analyst said

BMO Capital analyst Brian Pitz lowered the price target on Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) to $425 (from $480) while maintaining an Outperform rating.

“Messiness for sure, but all is not lost; GOOGL’s Q3 print was messy.

Search missed/guided down, margins missed on higher AI compute costs, cash burns worsened, capex was reiterated to be up significantly next year and $27B remains on the ATM.

Bears definitely win this round – so where’s the silver lining: underlying Search engagement is actually accelerating due to AI, though is undermonetizing, and we believe investors are awarding little/no credit for TPU EBIT to hit the model next year.

Lowering ests which lowers our target.

The Q4/Q1 Search comps are admittedly challenging but we stick with the OP on Search’s forward engagement indicators pushing back on secular concerns and underappreciated TPU margin upside in ’27/’28.”
