What the analyst said

Cantor Fitzgerald analyst C.J.

Muse reiterated a Neutral rating and $29 price target on Intel (NASDAQ: INTC).

“Lip-Bu is a solid choice for CEO, but he clearly has a lot of wood to chop.

We continue to view a proactive and expedited decision-making process as unlocking clear value at Intel (why we have a $29 price target), balanced by a likely ongoing investment in 18A and leading-edge manufacturing as a partial offset to the realization of this upside.

We continue to root for 18A/14A success, though we understand it will be a tough slog.”

“It is worth noting that Lip-Bu stepped down from the BOD in August 2024 (on BOD for 23mos) out of frustration with the then current CEO and overall BOD for not being aggressive enough, in particular with cost-cutting.”

“Now he is back as CEO with the same BOD? It would seem to us that a change to board leadership would make sense.

It is also worth stating that we don’t think there was a long list of qualified prospects willing to take this job and work with this BOD. Thus, this hire doesn’t come as a huge surprise.”
